Amethyst is a beautiful purple variety of the common Quartz crystal. Its violet color is created through natural radiation, iron and titanium impurities, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone would protect its wearer from drunkenness when drinking wine. Today, we use it for entirely different purposes.
