Amethyst is a beautiful purple variety of the common Quartz crystal. Its violet color comes from natural radiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name derives from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its bearer from drunkenness caused by wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.

The crystal is polished and shaped into an elongated flat form with a thumb indent.
