The Atacama/Peruvian Blue Opal is a distant relative of its "cousin", the Pink Andean Opal.

It forms under relatively low temperatures and has a beautiful, vivid blue colour. Even though it lacks the classic play of colour we see in "regular" opal, its hues are truly breathtaking.

In the Middle Ages, people believed that opal would bring good fortune. They also believed that, with the help of an opal wrapped in a fresh bay leaf, one could become invisible.

No wonder it was thought to hold such special power. Opal is a truly remarkable stone.
