Kunzite belongs to the mineral family known as "Spodumene". It is characterised by a delicate rose colour, which it owes to the presence of manganese.

It is considered a precious stone, first discovered in 1902. It was named after George Frederick Kunz, who was the chief jewellery designer at Tiffany & Co. at the time.
