Nephrite Jade is one of two mineral varieties of jade. The other, more precious variety is called Jadeite.

Nephrite jade is a type of amphibole mineral rich in calcium, magnesium, and iron from the tremolite-actinolite series.

In most cases, Nephrite Jade appears in green and grayish colors, though occasionally in yellow, brown, or white. Since prehistoric times, it has been primarily used for decorative elements and amulets, and before the Common Era, it was also used as a tool due to its durability.

In the past, it was believed that Nephrite Jade could heal kidney stones.

Before the Common Era in China, it was known as the "imperial gem" and was more desired and valued than gold and silver. For a time, it was even used as currency.

The Maori of New Zealand call Nephrite Jade "tonga," meaning treasure, and treat it as such. Since 1840, this special crystal has been protected in their region. They believe it holds magical power, which is why jewelry and amulets are passed down through generations.

Today, Nephrite Jade remains just as popular, as it's still believed to emit a very special energy.
