Prehnite is a silicate mineral first discovered in 1774 in South Africa. It most commonly appears in a soft green colour, and more rarely in white, yellow or brown.

It was named after Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, the Dutch mineralogist credited with its discovery. In the indigenous cultures of South Africa, it is regarded as a "prophetic stone".
